What Does A Sacristan Do?

Our sacristans here at Holy Spirit perform light housekeeping duties to prepare the church for weekend Masses.

Duties Include (But Not Limited To):

• Dusting in the sanctuary, vestibule and sacristy.  
• Changing water in the holy water fonts, (& altar linens when needed).
• Washing and removing wax from the candle followers and washing the ciborium (the covered cup designed to hold the Eucharist)
• Straightening the altar server vestments as well as the missalettes and hymnals in the pews.

When Are Duties Performed?

The ministry is primarily performed after the 9:00am Mass on Saturday mornings.  You will generally work with 1 or 2 other sacristans.
