Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The Mission of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The vocation of the Society’s members, who are called Vincentians, is to follow Christ through service to those who are in need and so bear witness to his compassionate and liberating love.  Members show their commitment through person-to-person contact.

In entering into the Society, members are called to grow in service to others, spirituality and friendship with fellow Vincentians.

The Society is an international organization founded in Paris by Blessed Frederic Ozanam in 1833.  The first meeting of the Society in the United States occurred in 1845.

Organized locally, Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice. The Society collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served because, in them, Vincentians see the face of Christ.
