Legion of Mary
The largest apostolic organization of the laity in the Catholic Church, open to all Catholics in good standing with a desire to serve Our Lord Jesus Christ through the intercession of His Blessed Mother Mary, and with over 3 million active members in over 160 countries worldwide!
Our mission is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members. Legionaries become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a life of prayer, frequent reception of the sacraments, and apostolic work done in union with Mary, under the guidance of a priest.
Active members attend a Legion meeting once a week on Monday mornings at 10:00 am in the McGivney Hall. Meetings are 1.5 hours and are led by Scott Douglass, with spiritual direction from Fr. Ignatius Agure. Guests are always welcome and may go on one of the work assignments with an experienced member. We perform the spiritual works of mercy for about 2 hours a week:
- Counsel the doubtful
- Instruct the ignorant
- Admonish the sinner
- Comfort the sorrowful
- Forgive injuries
- Bear wrongs patiently
- Pray for the living and the dead
Work Assignments at Holy Spirit:
- Visiting the sick and homebound of the parish
- Weekly Rosary at Leewood Health Care Center
- Sacred Heart Enthronement in parishioners ‘ homes
- Pilgrim Virgin Statue Visitation
- Door-to-door evangelization within the parish boundaries
Auxiliary Members:
Parishioners who are unable to attend weekly meetings and assist in the apostolic work can be Auxiliary Members. This dedicated group recites the Rosary daily and says the prayers contained in the Legion Tessera. These members unite with us in prayer as we perform our apostolic work.
