Holy Spirit Food Ministry

The need is great and the demand for food is growing! Over 70,000 people in Fairfax County are in need of food assistance and over 200,000 are in need throughout our Diocese.

As a Catholic response to the hunger and food insecurity in our Diocese, Catholic Charities conducts a diocesan-wide outreach to collect and distribute food where it is most needed through the St. Lucy Project.

During Holy Spirit’s collections (3-4 times a year), the St. Lucy “blue bags” are distributed to parishioners for them to fill with non-perishable food items. On a predetermined Sunday (TBA), the St. Lucy truck will be parked outside the main entrance before all morning Masses in which blue bags are collected and will be distributed where it is needed most.

Poor Sisters of St Joseph Monthly Food Donations

Holy Spirit supports The Poor Sisters of St. Joseph in Alexandria by providing non-perishable food the last Sunday of every month, (and Thanksgiving morning). We ask parishioners to drop off non-perishable items in the bins outside the main entrance of the Church before the noon Mass on the last Sunday of the month. Volunteers will deliver those monthly food items to the sisters where they will distribute weekly for over 100 poor families. Mother Maria and Sister Delphina thank you for your generosity!

Please contact Don Modder at [email protected] if you would like to volunteer or have any questions! Parents must accompany children and service hours are available for volunteers.
