Medhanie Alem Ge’ez Rite Eritrean Catholic Church
The Diocese of Arlington Eritrean Catholic Community continues to strengthen and develop through weekly Mass in the Medhanie Alem Ge’ez Rite, prayer groups, religious education, and ministries in both English and Tigrinya.
The Eritrean Community is led by Spiritual Director, Father Hagos Tesfagabir Haile. We celebrate Mass at 2:00 pm every Sunday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
About Fr. Hagos
Fr. Hagos Tesfagabir is a member of the Catholic Institute of Consecrated Life, Sons of St. Anna. He previously lived in the community in Rome and he was incardinated in the Diocese of Rome. After completing his secondary school at Maggiore seminary in Asmara in 1997, he began to study philosophy at the Asmara Catholic Theological Institute Kessatie Brhan. At the completion of his Philosophical studies, he became a novitiate and undertook one year of theological study.
In 2002 he took his first vows then was transferred to Rome for further theological studies. From 2002 to 2005 he studied Theology at the Pontifical University. January 28, 2005 he received a Bachelor degree in Theology. After one year of pastoral experience at the Holy Spirit in the city of Palermo ( 2005 – 2006 ), in the same year he took his perpetual vows on October 13, 2005. From 2006 to 2012, he studied at the Salesian Pontifical University, qualifying for a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology and Psychology of Community.
On January 5, 2007, he was ordained a deacon and was then ordained to the Priesthood on June 23, 2007. Fr. Hagos continued his service as assistant Parish at St. Mary of Carmel and Joseph in Rome. He served as a superior of the religious community Sons of St. Anna in Rome and collaborates with Eritrean community in Rome.
