Catholic Charities Donation & Volunteer Opportunities
Refugee Support:
ESL: Are you interested in making a lifelong impact on newly settled refugees? This volunteer job could be for you. We will train you!!! We are currently seeking teachers for the winter semester for a 12-week (or longer) commitment. If you are genuinely interested in making a difference in the lives of refugees, this is the way to do it. Our mission is to help individuals achieve self-sufficiency and participate fully in the greater community. The main facets of the programs are ESL classes, and Citizenship preparation classes. With an ongoing need for GED preparation courses, childcare courses, computer courses, and a job assistance program. We are currently in need of teachers from November 29th through March 3rd. If you are interested, please apply through our portal here: https://volunteer.ccda.net/custom/501/opp_details/1164. The time commitment is about 4 hours a week for the 12 weeks with a winter break for the holiday. This is an urgent need.
Thank you for your interest, service and consideration.
Donate Household Items:
The Migrant and Refugee Services (MRS) office has established an Amazon Wish List where it it possible to donate precisely what Migrant Refugee Services (MRS) needs for the refugees they are supporting.
Catholic Relief Services:
Want to help feed the hungry around the world and in our own diocese? Catholic Relief Services, the U.S. bishops’ overseas relief and development organization, works to alleviate hunger overseas and here in the Arlington diocese through its Lenten Rice Bowl program. Our diocesan program needs a volunteer to assist the program director with phone outreach to parishes and schools, maintaining and updating contact information and orders, and helping to manage the program. Requesting 5 hours/week, although more will be gratefully accepted. Much (not all) of the work can be done at home. The on-site work would be done in Arlington. Perfect for when the kids are in school or for a retiree. Robust Excel skills needed, and a willingness to learn about the Rice Bowl program and resources.
